Tour of the Lush Rainforest
Thursday, July 30th, 2009I was bored of visiting only beaches in the Caribbean and if I had to go to one more beach, I would have stopped going for vacations! Fortunately, this time Fred and the rest of the family agreed to go some place that had more than just beaches. Since Jack loves trees, we decided to go to St. Kitts and Nevis as the island has both beaches and lush rainforests.
The next morning after reaching the islands, we decided to go on a guided tour of the lush rainforests of St. Kitts and Nevis before Fred felt the need to just laze around on the beach and soak up some sun. To be sure, the tour of the lush rainforests did not disappoint me. It was a unique learning experience about nature and its wonderful ways. The giant forest trees were simply mesmerizing and Jack had a field day trying to identify the different trees and remembering their botanical names.
Ramon, our guide during the tour, was a very funny guy who told us amusing anecdotes about island life and the different trees and animals found in the lush rainforests. We even went on a hike on Mount Liamuiga. The view from the top was enthralling and awe-inspiring. The exotic plants and animals we saw while walking on the nature trail through the lush rainforests is one experience that I don’t think I will forget for a long time to come.
Another incident that I won’t forget so easily would be the time when Jack ran for his life through the lush rainforests when he saw a monkey come running towards him. Jack thought the monkey was going to bite him whereas the truth was that the little monkey seemed to like him and kept following him wherever he went. Oh! The look of horror on Jack’s face was so funny!
