VoIP Telephones Are Coming To A Couch Near You

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who are buying phone service from their cable companies, you may already be using VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology -whether you know it or not. The reason for this is that your cable company hasn’t told you you’re using VoIP because it does not want to scare you with a technology that sounds, well, kind of scary.

What exactly is VoIP?

Here’s the simple explanation. VoIP technology sends phone calls over the Internet, just as if you were sending an email. To do so, it breaks your call down into many tiny digital packets. Then, when all these little packets arrive at your caller’s phone, VoIP magically reassembles them back into your voice. Pretty neat, huh?

VoIP always costs less than conventional telephone service. There are two reasons for this. First, using the Internet to transmit calls is cheaper than using the phone company’s clunky, old analog system. Second, using the Internet eliminates all hose pesky taxes and surcharges that can just about double your phone bill.

To date, you’ve needed two things to use VoIP – a computer and a broadband cable connection. But this is about to change. New cordless, VoIP phones have been announced that don’t have to be connected through a computer, meaning that you can have one anywhere in your home. Of course, you will still need a broadband connection and a wireless router.

Panasonic and Philips have announced phones that will work with Skype, the popular provider of free and low-cost calls. In addition, Panasonic has announced a new cordless phone that will work with Vonage, and Philips has announced an alliance with Microsoft Corp. to introduce VoIP products.

When will these phones be available?

Netgear has said that it will announce prices and availability of its Skype Wi-Fi phones by the end of March, and Panasonic hopes to begin shipping its Skype-enabled phone by mid-year. On the other hand, Panasonic has offered no timetable for delivering it’s Vonage-enabled phone. Philips has said it will launch its Skype phone in Europe in May and in the U.S. in July 2006. No one knows what these phones will cost as none of these companies has announced any pricing.

So, who knows? By this summer, there may be a VoIP phone sitting on your couch.

Keyword-Density

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

It means that as how frequently a keyword is used in the text as a percentage of the total text. While writing content for a site or articles it is very important to check the keyword density. For example, while writing an article on auto, then, it is important to see that how often that keyword is repeated in your text. It is important because when the search engine hits your site, it will get content, then collect mega tag description and sort them in an order. After this search engine calculates the density of every Meta tag keyword in your text or content.

If your site is ranking well for specific keyword phrases at engines like Yahoo!, Teoma, MSN & for the allin sets of searches at Google (allinanchor:, allintitle:, allintext:, etc.) but not listed in the top 50-100 results at Google, the sandbox effect may be at work. However, it is important to keep in mind that this phenomenon is an ‘unknown’ algorithm piece at Google and standard optimization tactics, even by some of the best and most experienced SEOs have yet to consistently beat this effect.

What is keyword density ?

keyword density is an analysis of the number of times a particular word appears in relation to your web page content. It is reported as a percentage.

Six Tips for Cleaning Up Your Article Boo-Boos

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Let’s face it, we all make errors. The more content you pump out, the greater your chances of introducing errors into your work. You’re human; it’s your job to make mistakes. I’ve read 20 articles today. In 14, I found at least one big grammar error. It makes me wonder, “If this person doesn’t care about grammar errors, how would he or she handle MY business details if we were to do business?”

You can’t count on your word processing software spell checker to catch everything.

  • What if you’ve typed to when you mean too?
  • What if you’ve typed their when you mean there?
  • What if you’re one of those folks who confuses affect and effect?
  • How about insure and ensure?
  • Do you often write your when you mean you’re?
  • Do you suffer from apostrophe anxiety, often confusing plurals for possessives?
  • Do you think serial commas are something you find in a Cheerios box?
  • Is your spacing and article format consistent?
  • Do you draw a blank on that pesky lie/lay rule?
  • Are your sentences fragmented or incomplete? (Note: there are times when a sentence fragment is okay, but it’s a tool that should be used carefully.)

No spell checking program will catch these kinds of errors. Some grammar checking programs catch them, sometimes. In my opinion, the software or the computer is only as savvy as the person behind the keyboard and no software will ever replace human editing.

You’re going to make mistakes. Face it. What’s a busy article marketer to do? In addition to spell checking EVERYTHING, here are six tips to ensure your articles reflect your professionalism:

  1. Check your articles frequently, even after they’ve been live on Ezinearticles.com or other article site for awhile. You may catch an error tomorrow that you would have never seen today. I am constantly editing my articles even months after they’ve gone live. The beauty of publishing online is that you can fix your work as many times as you like!
  2. Be obsessive and impeccable with your articles. They are your professional introduction to the cyberworld. Would you dress in frayed jeans and a sweatshirt if you were giving a professional speech? Of course not. A well-groomed article says oodles about the writer’s attention to detail.
  3. Have a grammar geek friend or professional proofreader/editor check your article for you. Post it on a writers’ discussion network and ask for feedback if you feel comfortable. Ask your high school English teacher. If all else fails, pay a professional proofreader or editor to do the job for you. It won’t cost you an arm and a leg for a quick proofreading job and you will rest assured knowing your article looks and sounds professional.
  4. Read your article backwards. Yes, really. I often read my work backwards, especially when I’m tired of reading the same article over and over. It forces me to look more closely at my work. I find lots of my own errors this way.
  5. Let your article sit a day before posting it. Tweak it, love it, modify it. Your business and your articles deserve your loving attention so that others will love them too.
  6. Be open to suggestions from prolific article writers you trust. Everyone wants to give advice and be helpful. Would you take medical advice from your mechanic? Always consider suggestions from established writers and editors whose work you admire.

When you meet a new person for the first time, you immediately notice his or her physical attributes. However, after time, if you find nothing of substance beyond the physical, you lose interest. The saying “beauty is skin deep” is true in articleland and in the real world.

Great content is beautiful on the outside AND under the surface.

First impressions count in article writing and in life. If there’s just one grammar geek like me out there counting errors, you can bet there are a lot of people who will stop reading your article the minute they spot the first error. Don’t let your great content be sullied with silly errors.

Create a sizzling, sexy, and meaningful relationship with your readers. Let your articles’ stunning outer beauty grab attention. Let your articles’ inner beauty hold attention and keep readers coming back for more of your hot stuff.

Spell check. Proofread. Edit. Repeat this process indefinitely for timeless article beauty – inside and out.

An Account of the Inaugural Skiing Holidays to Chamonix France

Friday, March 27th, 2009

1770 was when the very first tourist accommodation was opened up in Chamonix Haute Savoie. Prior to this Chamonix France constituted a savage and sturdy agricultural village where folks caught animals and produced their oats.

Barns at this time were used to stock dairy cows during the spring and summer. Milk was kept by transforming it into cheese and butter and kept in the farm for consumption over the long winter times. Throughout the winter the chalets were secured, and any valuables were locked in a liitle shack.

The person who invented the catered chalet holiday is nameless, however it was probably some zealous chaps who realised a formula which was new and exciting. For Erna Low it commenced whilst she was a unhappy graduate who could not see her family back home as much as she would like to. Therefore in the 1930’s she took a gamble and took out a ad in the broadsheets to tempt punters on a skiing break. The cost was £15 and they traveled to and from the town, had breakfast and dinner and accommodation in the sole inn, and paid for ski gear and lessons. The holiday was difficult , there were no ski lifts, no quick release fixations, only heavy leather boots, it was so popular that Erna Low kept on taking groups on vacation, making sure she used great hotels and ski guides.

These Skiing holidays during the early years were a long way to the luxury we experience nowadays. Back then hot water was in limited supply, the bathrooms had to be used by all of the guests, and there was no a chef; all the punters needed to help out. It was a real gamble who may be in the accommodation for the trip, one could be pleased by meeting new skiers, or grimace at the thought of having to spend any more time with them.

Chalet holidays were later on advertised on their additional benefits. Your own cook, who served you continental breakfast and a four course dinner and even made you afternoon tea, private bathrooms hot water.

Graduation Gown

A graduation gown is a robe-like garment adorned people who are about to graduate from a particular institution. The gown, which is a part of the academic regalia, can also be referred to as academic robe. It is basically a long garment which runs down vertically and can be found in many different colors depending on the institution or if the gown is custom made. The specifications of a graduation gown can differ from institution to institution because one institution may decide to go with the traditional gray color while others may opt to go with the colors of the institution.

There are other learning institutions that may ask the students or the graduating party to hire or buy their own gowns which may be custom made. The graduation gown is not a preserve of the students only; faculty members can put it on as well. The clothing may also be worn on official functions that the institution may at times hold. The difference in the gowns can also be spotted in the type of qualification that an individual has achieved. For instance, the bachelor’s degree gown is quite different from the doctorate degree gown in both colors and design.

Faster Browser by Opera to Hit the Market Soon

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Opera is a software development company that publicly aims at providing the best internet experience to its users regardless of the device. In line with that, the company has released a new browser called ‘Turbo’, with an eye on the netbook devices.

The new browser is targeted at users of slow or erratic mobile broadband connections, such as those who use the increasingly popular netbooks to get online. Opera has claimed that Turbo would to be able to increase surfing speeds by 4 times, by performing an up to 80% compression on the requested web pages. To achieve the compression, the requested webpage is first sent to Opera’s own servers, which then send the compressed page to the device.

Some quality loss is of course expected from such a high compression, but it is unlikely the users will complain as long as they can get the promised speeds. Opera also claims that Turbo will integrate technologies like AJAX and Flash to display the websites as they are meant to be. The new browser has been released for limited testing, and a general release could follow soon.

The new browser is yet another instance of a software company turning its attention towards the netbook market. Just recently, Microsoft has announced that it would be releasing customized products to increase its revenue from the segment. The netbook market has been experiencing very strong growth, and it seems more and more technology companies could be looking at ways to tap the market. For the latest offers on free laptops, keep up to date with Mobile Broadband Genie.

Think Tank Discussion; Crossing the Pacific in a Row Boat

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Well the other day our think tank got on a discussion of rowing across the Pacific in a Rowboat. Now before you laugh there is a Frenchman who actually did it. He went across the Atlantic four times. We got to thinking of the logistics needed to beat this record he set of 129 days.

One of our think tank members Swift from Las Vegas thought; “The best position would be in the central part of the boat, while rowing in a forward position; but during rowing races not everyone is in the central part of the boat. What about getting seasick? Medication might be needed, it helps, it doesn’t stop it in everyone because it is appearing to be a genetic issue that’s stronger in some than in others. What about cadence?”

I thought well, that is a very interesting point I thought; Well, it would be fine, like a long distance runners cadence only even slower really. But in running you step every half-second or 3 times per second. Sometimes striding out .75 times or 1 time per second.

Swift began to discuss the similarities of the Tour de France to paddling across the Pacific Ocean and noted that someone like Lance Armstrong only a rowing champion would be the best type of human to try something like this.”

However I thought what if we had a scientifically and perfectly engineered boat with special oars, which allowed it to travel very fast thru the water, even with the waves? Could we take a very dedicated and mentally tough average good athlete and still get it done? If we could, I would or might like to try it.

Swift said well you are crazy enough to try it, I suppose and said; “Lance, I can see you crossing the ocean–it would be fun. With composites, the ship could be designed to be quite aerodynamic to move through the water more efficiently than wood or other materials. Perhaps, there could be something with the design or the weight at the bottom that would discourage the thing from flipping over during storms.”

Indeed, I thought these are excellent points aren’t they? Yes, of course you would have to stay alert and fight it? That would be a challenge. If it got to bad, close her up airtight and wait it out. Conquer your fears. Develop a self-enclosed and encapsulated pod as part of the boat incase of Typhoons or Hurricanes or just really dangerous and rough seas.

Swift said, well we will have to check to see if the French guy had sails, but if they would be made out of this film, there’d be electricity that wouldn’t add a lot to the weight. (New Flexible Solar Panels like on the Aerovironment “Pathfinder”) How peaceful would it be to be moving on a calm sea with the boat lit up so one could determine when the calmness would be over. There would be a lot of clues that a person could figure out in the time it took to cross. I wonder if things are different over the Ring of Fire as far as water currents and movements of storms. It would be great to have a computer, so one could have a program of the maps of the ocean in these areas, so as one rowed, the idea that there was an underground volcano, so fish might be plentiful to catch that day.

Yes indeed I said, some electronics would be needed for navigation. Yes or a satellite radio or something I suppose. You could on a very calm time send emails by a satellite? But short wave might be the best way to do it. Might be cool to have a Satellite Phone too.

Swift indicated that it might also be an important consideration for proper seating. “Something that would be important would be to create an ergonomically correct seat to row on so the back wasn’t stressed unduly. Perhaps, there would be some type of upper body garment that could be worn at first that would encourage the correct posture so there’d be muscle memory for the rest of the journey.”

Good plan I said; “Smart thinking. But do not make it too easy otherwise that would be a real problem for the challenge of it, as it is a test of will, the ultimate survival. You must battle the adversity with will and human intent, you see that is the fun of it?”

Swift said; “I was thinking about this last night and today, and the movement would be a rocking motion in liquid, which would be very womb-like. I wonder if storms would feel more intense when they occurred because of the sensory deprivation and how the womb-like movement might affect the primitive area of the brain.”

Indeed what about vertigo; although it does sound peaceful to me. On a pitch-black night with my new invention for my LED light, to flicker on the waves ahead so you did not get any surprises. The light would run off the waves slapping against the hull and the vibrational energy. Well yes all that would be a consideration, but also I think conquering the fear and risk might be a way to really make the experience a life event worthy of the human endeavor. If we talk all the danger away, it might not seem like such an adventure. You need enough to not necessarily feel 100% safe, but comfortable knowing you were prepared for the ’survival’ aspect of the journey.

Swift said; “It would be important to be able to access NASA’s AIRS system that is integrated with the Global Forecast System. Microwave and infrared imaging would help improve the accuracy of the 4 to 5 day storm forecasts as it could penetrate the cloud layers to show the temperature and water content of major storms. The accuracy is supposed by improve by 20% so one could determine the best times to take a shower–cold as it might be. It’s good to be prepared.”

“I was thinking that the bottom of the ship or boat could also take advantage of the cold of the water and could be a refrigeration unit so that food could be preserved in a safer manner and could be more fresh food than canned foods. The weight of the ship would diminish only slightly with better food and cans that wouldn’t be tossed overboard. Freeze-dried can be so boring. There would be a better nutritional mix, which is important for the success of the journey. If one fished well, the journey could be a great series of gourmet meals! How about a solar oven so one could bake while rowing? “

Indeed Swift is correct this would be a smart plan, but right under me I would want to be able to see the ocean underneath too. I would not be concerned with anything but sustenance. I wouldn’t want to make it too easy, but I could tow a small line and fish is good protein. Solar Oven, yes I have seen those, good idea. And you could make your own water by using a can of seawater and a mirror at an angle off the top condensation would run into the fresh water can. Also they make little RO filtration units, which are solar and then kill bacteria in a solar pack.

Now then Swift gets serious; “Would you choose the Atlantic or the Pacific, Lance?”

I had to stop and think for a second, well probably the pacific, but at certain times of the year you could do an Atlantic voyage? I guess all we need now is a perfect rowboat, some oars, rationing and a Corporate Sponsor? What would you take if you were going to paddle across the ocean? Think on it.
