Sources for Traffic

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic. It’s what every website needs. No matter if you run an adult or non adult site. You need surfers to visit your page in order to make any kind of money in the internet business. So maybe your asking yourself right now. . .I have a website, how do I get visitors to my site. Well the answer to that question has many parts. There are many different things to do and you can employ one or all methods to get traffic to your site. I am only going to mention a few and allow the other website owners to post what methods have worked for them. This post will be in multiple parts, so check back again.

Sources for Traffic

Search Engines

This is probably the number 1 preferred way to get traffic to any website. Why? Well because this is the most targetted traffic you can get. This is someone going to the search engine, typing in keywords or key phrases and YOUR site popping up in the list. Now the trick is getting your site listed first and that is a discussion for another topic. I will cover that later. For now the important thing is getting you a list of some serch engines that you can tap into to get traffic to your website.

There are many search engines, thousands (probably hundreds of thousands) of search engines out there. Too many to name all here. I am only going to focus on the top 12 search engines that matter. You want your site listed in these, because they account for 95% of the traffic on the web.

1. www.google.com
2. www.yahoo.com
3. www.msn.com
4. AOL – www.aol.com
5. Excite – www.excite.com
6. Ask Jeeves – www.ask.com
7. Altavista – www.altavista.com
8. All the Web – www.alltheweb.com
9. Hotbot – www.hotbot.com
10. Lycos – www.lycos.com
11. Netscape – www.netscape.com
12. Teoma – www.teoma.com

You can probably get listed in the top 3 and do very well for yourself without the remaining 9. The first 3 control 85% of the traffic on the net today. I recommend getting listed in as many as you can. It doesn’t hurt. The more engines you are listed, the more visitors to your site.

Asking yourself how do I get listed in these engines? Each engine has specific requirements. Go to each and submit according to their rules. I will tell you that many on the list you will need to pay for inclusion to the engine. Wait a minute! I do not have money to submit to 12 different search engines. Well, your in luck. If you are working with a limited budget, I would limit my marketing to the top 3. Why? one word. . . .FREE. That’s right. It’s free to submit your site to the top 3 engines on the list.

The top 3 you do not have to pay. You can go to the engine and submit your site. It can take months to get included if your site is lucky to get included at all. Do not have that long to wait? So is there a faster way to get listed, you may be asking. Absolutely. How? That’s for another lesson. I will cover that when I get into discussing the big 3 SE’s.

Next time we will talk about Web directories. Anoher source, but not as effective. For now, go out there, visit the top 12 engines, and get your site submitted.

Do It Right The First Time….. Choosing The Best Weight Loss Program For You.

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

How do you decide which system is the best weight loss program for you?

This is a question that has been asked thousands of times and the answer can be different every time. There are so many choices, so many avenues to explore, so many factors to consider. Let’s try to break this down into manageable components.

Use these steps when deciding on a weight loss plan of action:

Goals for your best weight loss program One the most important things to do when searching for the best weight loss program for you is to decide on your goals. The more specific you are with your goals, the better your chances of weight loss success become.

Be sure to set specific, realistic expectations. Meaning, don’t expect to lose 100 pounds in thirty days. The average amount of weight loss using safe and healthy means is one to three pounds per week, sometimes maybe a little more. Don’t get discouraged. As the months fly by, you’ll definitley start to notice those pants getting looser!

When setting goals ask yourself these questions: How much weight do I want to lose? How much time am I giving myself to reach my ideal weight? (Remember be realistic!)

Lifestyle- finding the best weight loss program for your schedule

When choosing the best weight loss program for you, it’s very important to factor in the type of lifestyle you lead. This is a crucial step that many people miss.

Your lifestyle determines what type of weight loss program will work for you. If you work twelve hours a day or travel five days a week, a weight loss program that requires a lot of cooking won’t work for you so don’t even consider it.

Additionally…

You need to know your strengths and weaknesses. Are you an exercise buff who just happens to eat poorly? If so, you may need a food based weight loss program. On the other hand, are you a whiz in the kitchen but you hate working out?

Also…

What qualities in a weight loss program are necessities for you? Ask yourself these questions and be honest in your answers: How much time daily can I devote to exercise? Cooking? How many times a week must I be able to eat out?

What kinds of exercise am I willing to do? (ex. walking, jogging, weight training, swimming, pilates, yoga, aerobics, etc.) Do I need help with my eating habits? Fitness? Both? Must I have one-on-one attention?

Do I need a plan that requires no cooking? Do I need a plan with lots of structure or one with customization and flexibility?

Money for the best weight loss program

Another thing to factor in when choosing the best weight loss program for you is the amount of money you’re willing to spend. Most online membership-based weight loss programs will cost between $15.00 – $250.00 per month while non membership-based programs have a one-time fee of anywhere between $12.00 – $ 160.00

There are a couple of things you need to be aware of when deciding on your weight loss budget. As is true with just about everything in today’s society, you usually get what you pay for so when deciding on the right budget treat this like you would something that is very important to you.

If you’re willing to spend sixty bucks on that new hair cut and color or that great outfit, shouldn’t you be willing to spend that much on reaching your desired weight? Having said that, there are plenty of good weight loss programs to choose from at reasonable prices. The key point to remember here is that the more customization you require, the more the price of the weight loss program will rise.

For example…

You may be able to get a weight loss program for $19.95 but don’t expect it to be customized to fit your individual needs. Don’t expect a lot of intricate details in this program and definitely don’t expect ongoing personal support.

With that said…

If you’re focused on your weight loss goal, you have the necessary will power to stay on track, you can follow a pre-packaged plan, and all you need is a simple, effective weight loss plan of action, you may be able to succeed with a low cost weight loss program.

However, if you’re frustrated from past failures but determined to succeed, you might want to shell out a few extra bucks for customized, one-on-one support.

Safety

The next and most important issue you need to consider is the safety of the weight loss program you’re interested in. The first thing you should always do is discuss the weight loss program with your doctor.

The general rule of thumb I use when giving nutritional advice is if the program consists of losing weight solely through eating healthier and exercise, then it’s usually safe to try. I never recommend using supplements because many of them (even herbal ones) can be harmful but even if they’re not they are unnecessary.

You can lose weight safely, quickly, and effectively without them so why waste extra money buying supplements you really don’t need?

Having said that, it’s still your choice as to whether you want to try supplements or not. Just always get your doctor’s approval first and if a supplement makes you feel strange or causes any side effects stop taking it immediately. Now get going towards the best weight loss program!

Now it’s time to get started on your weight loss plan of action. Get a sheet of paper and jot down answers to all of the questions in each subtitle. Visit best-weight-loss-program-info.com , read our reviews, and determine if any of the programs have the qualities you need in order to have weight loss success. If not, move on to other programs but use the same checklist.

This weight loss plan of action should save you time and money and help you to find the best weight loss program for you the first time around.

Cisco CCNA / CCNP Certification Exam Tutorial: Dialer Watch

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Dialer Watch is a vital part of your CCNA and CCNP studies, particularly for the BCRAN exam, but it’s one of the most misunderstood technologies as well. To help you pass the CCNA and CCNP certification exams, here’s a detailed look at Dialer Watch.

Dialer Watch allows you to configure a route or routes as “watched” when the watched route leaves the routing table and there is no other valid route to that specific destination, the ISDN link will come up. In the following example, R1 and R2 are connected by both a Frame Relay cloud over the 172.12.123.0 /24 network and an ISDN cloud using the 172.12.12.0 /24 network. The routers are running OSPF over the Frame cloud, and R1 is advertising its loopback of 1.1.1.1/32 as well as an Ethernet segment, 10.1.1.0/24, via OSPF. R2 has both of these routes in its OSPF table, as shown below.

R2#show ip route ospf

1.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets

O 1.1.1.1 [110/65] via 172.12.123.1, 00:00:07, Serial0

10.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets

O 10.1.1.0 [110/128] via 172.12.123.1, 00:00:08, Serial0

We want R2 to place a call to R1 if either the loopback or Ethernet networks leave R2’s routing table, but we don’t want to have to depend on interesting traffic. That dictates the use of Dialer Watch.

First, configure the list of watched routes with dialer watch-list. Only one of the watched routes needs to leave the routing table for the ISDN link to come up. In this example, R2 will watch both routes from its OSPF routing table.

Be careful with this command. The entries here need to match exactly the routes and masks being watched. Dialer watch-lists use subnet masks, not wildcard masks.

R2(config)#dialer watch-list 5 ip 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0

R2(config)#dialer watch-list 5 ip 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255

Configure the dialer watch-group command on the BRI interface, AND frame map statements for the watched routes. As with dialer-list and dialer-group, the group number referenced in the dialer watch-group command must match the number assigned to the dialer watch-list.

The Dialer Watch configuration will not work without frame map statements for each watched route. I repeat this because this is the step a lot of people leave out.

R2(config)#interface bri0

R2(config-if)#dialer watch-group 5

R2(config-if)# dialer map ip 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255. name R1 5557777 broadcast

R2(config-if)# dialer map ip 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 name R1 5557777 broadcast

To test Dialer Watch, the Serial0 interface on R2 will be shut down. Since we’re running OSPF, the route table will be updated almost immediately and the ISDN link should come up right after that.

R2(config)#int s0

R2(config-if)#shut

01:12:47: %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr 1.1.1.1 on Serial0 from FULL to DOWN, N
eighbor Down: Interface down or detached

01:12:47: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface BRI0:1, changed state to up

01:12:48: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by console

01:12:48: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface BRI0:1, changed state
to up

01:12:49: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Serial0, changed state to administratively
down

01:12:50: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Serial0, changed state
to down

01:12:53: %ISDN-6-CONNECT: Interface BRI0:1 is now connected to 5557777 R1

Within five seconds, the ISDN link is up. show dialer verifies that Dialer Watch is the reason the line was brought up.

R2#show dialer

BRI0 – dialer type = ISDN

Dial String Successes Failures Last DNIS Last status

5557777 2 0 00:00:11 successful

0 incoming call(s) have been screened.

0 incoming call(s) rejected for callback.

BRI0:1 – dialer type = ISDN

Idle timer (120 secs), Fast idle timer (20 secs)

Wait for carrier (30 secs), Re-enable (15 secs)

Dialer state is data link layer up

Dial reason: Dialing on watched route loss

Time until disconnect 108 secs

Connected to 5557777 (R1)
A final note regarding Dialer Watch … it will not work with RIP, but will with all our other dynamic IGPs (IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF).

Cisco CCNA Certification Exam Tutorial: Keep Your Most Important Appointment

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Imagine this. You have an appointment with a client to work on a server or router install. A few minutes before you’re scheduled to be there, you decide there’s something really good on TV you’d like to watch. Or you decide to go to the gym, or play a game, or do anything else except go see the client.

Even if you weren’t going to get fired for not showing up, it’s certainly unfair to the client. You’ve got a professional obligation, and you should be there on time.

Now, what’s this got to do with you becoming a CCNA or CCNP? Plenty. Because when it comes to your study time, you’re the client. You owe it to yourself to show up. You would never blow off an appointment to meet a client to get some important work done.

First, though, you have to make that appointment with yourself! Schedule your CCNA / CCNP study time, and keep that appointment as you would with a client. Turn off the TV, your cell, your iPod, and everything else electronic that you carry around. Believe it or not, the world can survive with being in contact with you for an hour or so! You might even like it!

Getting certified isn’t about how many hours, days, or weeks you spend studying. It’s about how much quality time you put in. Be honest with yourself and realize that you’re better off with 45 minutes of uninterrupted study as you would be with three hours of constantly interrupted study.

Don’t blow off an appointment to yourself, either. Schedule the time, be there on time, get your study done, and you’re one step closer to your CCNA and CCNP!

Time Management meetings and Television

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Creating good time management habits at the office can be a tough, especially when you must work around other people’s projects and meeting plans. But just because somebody wants to schedule a face-to-face meeting doesn’t mean that the meeting must be held. Once you talk with that person on the phone, you may discover that you can gather all of the necessary information without ever having to take time from your day for a meeting with him.

Another example of unnecessary time-wasting at the office is attending meetings where it wasn’t necessary for you to be there. You would be surprised as to how many meetings are held with people who did not need to be there. How much time is wasted for those people? How much of their time management planning goes down the drain due to these meetings?

But how do you communicate your desire to bypass a meeting or to have a meeting canceled altogether, without offending the person who is trying to schedule it? Simply try to ask the person on the phone questions about as much information that the meeting is to be about. Then politely say “Well it looks like I have everything that I need, how about I get to work on this project right away and we can meet about the results tomorrow”? However you approach the situation, be conscious of who you are dealing with and what position at the office they hold. http://www.eselfhypnosis.com

Did you know that the average person wastes up to 70% of their free time by watching television? Are you one of those people? Chances are that if your goal is to make better use of your time for more important items in your life, then you may need to kick the television habit to the curb!

Below are 6 ways in which you can make better time management by controlling your TV habits:

1. Ignore the TV and choose to work on hobbies such as gardening, puzzles, reading, stamp collecting, etc. 2. Only permit yourself to watch two hours of programming on Saturday and Sunday for an entire month. You will be amazed at how much more focused you will be. 3. Instead of watching sports games on TV, why not attend them instead? Not only does this get you away from the television but it also can create more quality time between you and your friends and family. 4. Understand that you do not need to watch TV for your news and information. You have been programmed to do so since birth and with today’s online news reports you do not need to get drawn back into watching television just to see what is happening out there. 5. Make it a point to go an entire week at a time without ever turning on your television. So this at least once per month, or more if possible. http://www.eselfhypnosis.com

Getting Published – Your Article Submission Checklist

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Submitting articles can be an extremely effective means of free promotion, but only IF your article is used by other websites and ezines.

Follow these important guidelines to dramatically increase the odds of getting your article published:

* Thoroughly Check Spelling And Grammar

Even with electronic spell checkers, this is still a killer. Be especially careful with words that sound alike but have different meanings (homophones). Should that be “there” or “their”? “Your” or “you’re”?

Another trouble spot is the apostrophe (‘). An apostrophe should be used to indicate possession (John’s car), dropped letters (don’t) and characters/words mentioned as themselves (ID’s). And remember, “it’s” means “it is.”

* Don’t Write In Long, Dense Paragraphs

Long, unbroken runs of text are visually unappealing, and act as a subconscious block to reading (looks like too much hard work). People are in a hurry, so information needs to be presented in a way they can scan for points of interest.

* Don’t Ramble Or Use Wordy Sentences

Providing great information is not enough. People read to learn, but also seek excitement. Instant gratification. They lack the time to be patient, so stick to the point. When you’ve finished writing, start deleting. Cut unnecessary sentences. Look for superfluous ‘filler’ words and repetitions. Delete them. Add more punch and drive by killing adjectives.

* Don’t Employ Gratuitous Self Promotion

There’s no greater turn-off than an article that proclaims the author or their product wonderful. People want to discover your qualities for themselves. Your article is the medium.

If you want to sell yourself; display your knowledge, innovative thinking, character. To promote a product, talk about a common problem or need, educate, perhaps tell a story. Provide interesting information. Only mention the product subtly, or not at all, leaving it for your by-line.

* Don’t Over-indulge On Your Resource Box

It’s generally accepted that your resource box, or “About the author” by-line should be no more than 6 lines in length. Many publishers will object to anything longer, and unless your article is particularly exceptional, they’ll bin it.

* Use The Standard Format

Most ezine editors expect your article to be in this format:

Plain text, hard wrapped at 60-65 characters per line.

It’s the only way to guarantee the piece appears as intended. Anything else creates extra work for editors, either reformatting, deleting HTML code, or fixing incorrectly printing characters. To save time, such articles are passed over.

* Don’t Send Your Article As An Attachment.

Attachments require opening, something that may be put off and forgotten about. Worse still, the legitimate fear of virus infection means many people delete them on sight. Paste your article into the body of the email, so editors can scan through it immediately.

* Don’t Send Multiple Copies

It’s tiresome to have to delete 2 or 3 copies of your article each time you make a submission. And it tells the recipient you don’t value their time. A source of annoyance, your article will lose points in comparison to other articles of equal merit: The subconscious mind is a powerful thing!

Check your submission list for duplicate domains. Those from free email accounts are usually obvious, but if you’re unsure, check. It takes less than a minute to paste a domain name into a browser and load the site. How much money would you make if your article was published? Worth a minute?

* Don’t Say How Wonderful Your Article Is

All too often I receive article submissions that start something like this:

“Hi! Here’s a great new article for your ezine that your subscribers will love!”

Few ezine editors will appreciate YOU telling them your work is great. Or that THEIR subscribers will love it, especially when it’s obvious you don’t even know the editor’s name, nor the title of their ezine.

Save this article (now, before you forget!) and refer to it the next time you write one of your own. Most submissions an editor receives are passed over for one reason or another. The secret is to stack the odds in YOUR favor. Give editors what they want and you WILL be rewarded!

Journal-Keeping: A Place for Healing, Self-discovery, and Creative Flow

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

I have a best friend, therapist and personal organizer I take with me everywhere. It is compact, requires as little or as much time as I desire and is always ready to offer support, guidance, comfort, or laughter. It costs very little and never asks for anything in return, though I feel a yearning to be with it daily. I know it will never let me down.

A journal can be far more than a place to record daily events or idle thoughts. Used purposefully, it can be a catalyst for personal growth, problem solving, and a path to creativity. When used for writing about upsetting events, journaling can actually improve immune system functioning, resolve stress, and provide psychological healing.

Most people keep a journal at some point in their lives, be it a teenage diary or an executive daily-planner. Others resist journal-keeping because they think they aren’t good enough writers, that someone will read their private thoughts, or that they have much more important things to do. But once people put their reservations aside and make the journal a friend, they look forward to exploring with pen and paper.

From a practical standpoint, spending a few minutes on a daily or weekly basis putting your thoughts on paper enables you to evaluate your feelings and abilities and recognize areas of improvement. You may discover that you want to shift priorities, spend more time on things you value, or make major life changes. A journal can also be a place to be silly, out of character, and creative, without judgment from others.

Rather than thinking of a journal as a diary where you merely relate the day’s events, think of it as a space for self-reflection, self-expression, and self-exploration. There are no rules. Write as little or as much as you want, as frequently or infrequently as you desire, though I recommend taking a few minutes each day to put your thoughts on the page.Creating a regular writing practice develops stronger organizational skills, such as list-making and time management. For me, regular writing in my journal eventually tapped a rich vein of creativity I had long-ago buried with an all-too-busy lifestyle. The important thing is just to express your thoughts without censorship.

Choose a notebook and writing instrument that feel good. Some people are inspired by an elegant bound notebook with fine paper. Others prefer a spiral-bound pad or loose-leaf sheets in a binder. Use your favorite pen, or make your entries on a computer. The benefits to journal-keeping are endless. A journal allows you self-expression without external judgment. It is the perfect tool for clarifying goals and organizing your workday. Expressing your emotions such as anger or sadness through writing releases the emotional pressure that builds up when you hold feelings inside. Many people feel calmer and spiritually at ease after a journal-writing session, and scientific studies show this can improve your health.

James. W. Pennebaker, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, found that students who wrote about unresolved painful events or problems showed improved immune system functioning lasting several weeks and visited the health clinic fewer times over the next six months than control groups who wrote about neutral topics.

In another study, which appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, confessional writing was shown to help alleviate symptoms of asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Joshua Smyth, an assistant professor of psychology at North Dakota State University, found that patients who wrote about experiences such as car accidents, physical abuse, divorce, or sexuality improved their lung function by 19 percent on average. Rheumatoid arthritic patients in the same study showed a 28 percent improvement in symptoms. The control group who wrote about inconsequential subjects did not show improvements.

As a business tool, writing down reflections about events experienced each day is an invaluable way to evaluate your performance, set higher standards of excellence, and find new ways to solve difficult problems. Needs and goals also become easier to clarify and prioritize once they are written down on paper, both for your personal and professional life.

Writing about people you know will help you gain a better understanding of them and your related feelings. When you’re furious with someone close to you, discharging raw emotion in the privacy of your journal enables you to work out solutions in advance rather than face to face in an irrational outburst. This often results in stronger relationships.

When beginning a journaling session it helps to put yourself in the mood by closing your eyes, taking five deep breaths, and focusing your attention inward. Ask yourself “What am I feeling at this moment?” Jot down a few lines about what’s on your mind. Then, you may want to use specific techniques to zone in on a subject or feeling. A few of my favorite techniques include:

Using a springboard to focus your attention. Choose a topic, statement, question, or quotation and start writing about it. Examples: Why am I so upset? The most important thing to do today is… The thing that keeps haunting me is . . .

Writing an unsent letter. Pretend youre writing a letter to someone telling them what you like, or dislike, about him or her. Because a journal is private and safe, you can write things that you could never say in person. By releasing pent-up hostile feelings, you can clear issues and strengthen your relationship without saying things out loud that could ruin a relationship. The undelivered letter can also clarify your feelings and offers a safe place to tell the truth without expressing it in person.

Creating dialogues. Another way to express deep feelings is to write about them, then write in the imagined voice of the other person, much like a movie script. Dialoguing cultivates both empathy and creativity. Most people gain valuable insights when they let their imaginations roam this way. You can also dialogue with different aspects of yourself to resolve inner conflict or confusion. For example, writing a dialogue between the voice of confusion and the voice of your intuitive self can clarify your thoughts.

Capturing moments. Write a description of an experience that was truly intense and memorable. Immerse yourself in the past moment and fill the page with physical and emotional detail. Doing this recreates your body’s physiological response to an enjoyable event and promotes the healing effects of being happy. Most people report they feel refreshed and energized after writing about their favorite moments.

Designing your future. Imagine yourself one month from now then one year from now. Where are you now? Where do you want to be? Define your dreams and goals. Write every detail of what you want your life to be like. How will you feel when these dreams and goals are realized? What are some of the things you can do to get there? The words will awaken your intuitive and creative wisdom, which, in turn, will help you make better decisions.

Using a journal for self-discovery, personal growth, clarifying life goals, and accessing creative flow makes a notebook more than just a record of life–it becomes a treasured confidant and friend.

Rejection – Have the Right Perspective and Don’t Quit

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

If you’re getting rejections from your submissions, please don’t quit yet until you read the following article. I want you to get a perspective on rejection.

First of all, I’ll assume you’ve been told a few things about rejection: Don’t take it personally; it’s a part of writing; and all well-established writers have been rejected at first, and are even rejected now. Good advice.

Then why are you still discouraged by rejection?

Here’s why. We live in a world where ignorance is bliss. You get rejected all the time, you just don’t know it. Perhaps a friend has considered calling you to do something and then changes her mind. You will never know. She isn’t going to send you a rejection letter. Suppose you owned a business and sent out 1,000 direct mail letters and got a response of ten. This is considered a very good response in the direct mail field. Those ten responses cover your costs and time and then some. Do you lament over the 990 folks who didn’t respond? No. Could you see if you demanded to have every one of them write back and tell you they aren’t interested? You’d be blue then. Consider all the offers you reject on a daily basis. Ah, but as writers we put ourselves on the line by requesting to be rejected. The publishing industry is so unique in that aspect. We demand that publishers respond to us and let us know what they want to do with our writing. We have to in order to know what to do next with our particular article or book proposal.

The reason rejection is such a part of your life is because it is the nature of this business of writing. You can’t expect a publisher to accept everything everyone submits. Even if every submission was spectacular, they still couldn’t publish every one.

So you feel stupid when you get rejected. You beat yourself up. There are great ways to overcome this. Keep writing. Keep sending items out. Be very businesslike. Get a rejection letter? Make yourself feel better by sending out the same package that day to another publisher. Handle your submissions in a non-emotional way. While the writing itself can be emotional, the submission process cannot. Accept this and you’ll be a lot happier. Try saying this to yourself the next time you get a rejection: “You don’t want it? That’s okay, I’ll try someone else.”
